About the Artist

“The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.” Alberto Giacometti

I am a New Mexico pastel artist who learned at an early age the absolute joy in creating art from my own vision.

I was encouraged by supportive parents to pursue that with summer classes where I learned how to draw, the basics of oil painting, pen and ink sketching, and watercolor painting.  As time went on I was able to take more and more art classes, in between making a living, from wonderful teachers who taught me how to really visualize and then put to paper what I wanted to accomplish in a painting.

During my studies in oil painting with Louis Maestas in the 1990’s, I began to explore pastel painting and learned what a magnificent medium pastels are.

Lately, my pastel studies have been at various workshops and with Maria Cole and Natasha Isenhour, and I am also currently under a mentorship with Natasha Isenhour.

Pastels are magical in color and feel and they give a unique and luminous quality to any subject.  That luminosity in color and shadows and light is what I seek to portray in my paintings.  My subjects are landscapes, still lifes, and flowers.  Inspiration is found in my travels across the country, camera in hand,  and especially in my beautiful and beloved home state of New Mexico.
